I have experience working as a writer, researcher, presenter, tutor and archives consultant. My previous residences include Vancouver, Yellowknife, Timmins and Sudbury. In 1989, I returned to my hometown of London, Ontario.
I am concurrently engaged in writing my memoir and organizing my personal archives. Some of my records, entitled the “Peterson Family Fonds,” have been donated to Archives and Special Collections at the University of Western Ontario (Western University), my alma mater.
My memoir concentrates on my two generations of experience with Indigenous (Aboriginal) issues (my late parents initially got involved in 1958). I worked in Native organizations in Southern and Northern Ontario and the Northwest Territories, primarily during the 1975 to 1987 period.
In 2022, my two Blogger blogs were combined into one WordPress, so this blog is a combination of the previous two. As you will see if you look at the “counterpoise” section of my blog, which contains my views on Indigenous (Aboriginal) issues, I do not “toe the party line,” when it comes to the standard narrative about this topic. I disagree with the “It’s all the White man’s fault” viewpoint, which I contend has stifled productive discussions on how to move forward.
My blog’s “Leith Peterson” section covers both sides of my family story, highlighting the value of understanding my background. This perspective shapes my belief that productive discussions should consider all viewpoints.
I hope you find your visit to my blog worthwhile.
